Philippe Patrick Starck (b. January 18, 1949, Paris) is a French designer considered by most art critics to be "king of modern design". His design work covers a wide range of objects, from interior design for the world's most acclaimed hotel chains to consumer objects such as toothbrushes or chairs. His career as a designer began to take off in 1982, when he was hired by French President Francois Mitterand to work on the design of his personal apartment.
